Coat of arms

Shield Argent, three string puppets Proper, fixed Gules on a fessy walking-stick Sable, in chief Vert a horsehead Argent bridled Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "SANTO ALEIXO - MONFORTE".
The string puppets are alluding to the traditional puppet shows in the Alentejo, which seem to have their origin in this commune and are thus a representation of the commune's name. The horsehead is referring to a local lordship of the Bragança kin.
