Flag adopted 10 July 1991
While studying the Catalan language in Tarragona recently I saw some banners showing a version of the Red & Gold Catalan bars, but drawn in a wavy pattern. Is this a new design or an heraldic throwback?

This is the flag of Tarragona City. The wavy lines mean the Meditteranean sea, on which Tarragona lies.

Last weekend, 2005.03.04-07, I was in Mataró town, Maresme county, Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain. I saw, just north of Tarragona train station, a Catalonian flag with wavy stripes! I'm almost sure it was not an optical illusion from regular stripes on a fluttering flag!

An image of the flag of the city (Ajuntament) of Tarragona is at www.ajtarragona.es (bottom of the page); another one can be seen here (click to enlarge).
