The sinister side of the silver(=white shield) is divided by a blue pale. Upon the dexter side there are two blue blossoms of corn-flowers.
According to Veddeler 2003, p.163 the blossoms are symbolizing the two settlements of Langenberg and Benteler, which formed the new city. The pale is symbolizing the highway connecting both cores from North to South.
Flag, banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Detmold on 15 December 1977.
